Rachel Corrie Chapter 109 Veterans For Peace Regular Meeting Minutes 18 October 2009

 

Location:  Traditions Fair Trade, 5th Ave and Water St; Olympia, WA

 

Members present:  T. Zander, M. Fleming, , D. Mills, K. Schwilk, D.

Ryan, J. Mackey, R. Poteat, R. Smith, C. Crist, D. King

 

Guests:  J. Stieber, C. Curran, A. Sunrise,

 

Meeting began at 5:30 pm.  Josh Stieber and Conor Curran, two Iraq War veterans spoke about their bicycle trip across the US to bring awareness of the war and their own healing.  Their presentation and questions concluded around 6:30 pm.  Short business meeting followed.

 

T. Zander announced that VFP109 was invited to march in the Auburn Veterans Day parade 07 November.  Zander indicated that he planned to attend with the chapter banner and invite others to join him..  R.

Smith announced that he would attend the Veterans Day ceremony at the state capital on 11 November and invited other chapter members to meet at the Winged Victory statue at 9:30 am prior to the beginning of the ceremony at 10:00 am.

 

D. Mills gave a Treasurer’s report (actual figures will be included in archive document).  Discussion followed about use of available funds.

Estimated annual costs are:

     Media supplies                $  200

     TCTV                                 125

     KAOS donation*                  150

     Arlington Northwest             200

     Coffee Strong Support          600

     Traditions**                        120

     Total                               $1420

*   Members agreed to raise this donation to $150 from $100.

**  Members agreed to donate $10 monthly to Traditions for meeting space

 

Consensus among members was that these amounts are feasible with existing balance and contributions during meetings and events.

 

T. Zander will contact Capitol Theater regarding showing of “Joyeaux Noel” during holidays.

 

Discussion on how to market/present VFP to community.  Ideas included:

     Participating/assisting James Yee in his “Close Guantanamo” marathon

on New Year’s Day

     Showing “Rethinking Afghanistan” or  VFP interview with James Yee at

next meeting. Next meeting will be 15 November at Traditions.
