VFP 109  Rachel Corrie Chapter Meeting Minutes 15 April 2009


Location:  Traditions Fair Trade, 5th and Water STS; Olympia, WA

President T Zander called the meeting to order at 2:00 pm.


Treasurer D Mills reported account balances and disbursements in past month.


Meeting approved $34 reimbursement to D Mills for materials for chapter table display.  Also approved $$53.91 to T Zander for letter of support printing and mailing.


T Zander discussed chapter activities in the past month.  He spoke with the national office about a chapter rebate on dues.  National is considering this but will probably raise dues to cover the rebate.  He sent out 95 letters of support.  Iraq Memorial to Life, tabling at the Amy Goodman and Rachel Corrie events, Trauma Stewardship at Coffee Strong.  He is applying for chapter participation in the Tumwater 4th of July parade and the July 18 LakeFair parade.


Zander has scheduled a May 11 meeting with the Olympia legislative delegation, Senator Karen Fraser and Reps Brendan Williams and Sam Hunt to discuss legislation to bring the Washington National Guard home.  Kerschner, Schwilk and Hamilton will join the meeting.

Hamilton will bring a cop of a previously drafted resolution.


The revised chapter bylaws proposed by the bylaws committee were approved unanimously after a brief discussion.


W. Hamilton updated Coffee Strong activities.  On May 9 Coffee Strong will begin its Stop Loss campaign with a gathering at noon on “Freedom Bridge”, exit 122.  Coffee Strong has established a national advisory board that includes Ann Wright, Howard Zinn and VFP president Mike Fernier.  The local governing board includes chapter member D Mills and will lose Alex Bacon who will be moving to Philadelphia to become president of IVAW.


T Zander announced that the May meeting will feature a presentation by the Capital High School Minesweepers Club.


The business meeting adjourned at 3:00 pm.

L Loyle discussed the Thurston County Veteran’s Assistance Fund.
